Exquisite Mistake (after Henry James’ The Portrait of a Lady)

Directed by Alexis Macnab

An immersive adaptation of Henry James' novel The Portrait of a Lady was invited to premiere at the New Orleans Fringe Festival. The company developed Exquisite Mistake as an interactive exploration of the novel's themes which cast the audience as the story's main character, Isabel Archer. A newly orphaned ex-pat in Europe, Isabel is everyone's perfect version of a friend, a lover, a confidant, an accessory, a victim. As Isabel, the audience must pledge their allegiance to one of their new friends or foes, and then live with the consequences. Exquisite Mistake is a carnival of poor life choices wrapped in the luxury of upper-class indolence, desperation, and desire where love is the deadliest affliction and money the most effective weapon. November, 2014.

"Combining choreographed performances with improvised interactions, Exquisite Mistake is both entertaining and engaging." - Best of New Orleans
